O uso de pronomes possessivos na língua inglesa é muito simples.

Primeiro, os pronomes utilizados:

I -> my = meu
you -> your = seu / teu
he -> his = dele
she -> her = dela
it -> it’s = dele / dela (para coisas e animais)
we -> our = nosso
you -> your = seus / teus
they -> their = deles

Exemplos:

1) This is my glass of water. = Este é meu copo d’água.

2) You have to take your umbrella, because it’s raining. = Você tem que pegar seu guarda-chuva, porque está chovendo.

3) Adriano didn’t use his car. = Adriano não usou seu carro.

4) Joana has forgotten her dress. = Joana esqueceu de seu vestido.

5) The cat plays with it’s ball. = O gato brinca com sua bola.

6) We don’t live in our own house. = Nós não moramos em nossas própria casa.

7) Do you know your relatives? = Vocês conhecem seus parentes?

8) Carlos and Ana have bought their bed. = Carlos e Ana compraram a cama deles.

Quando o objeto em discussão na frase já foi citado ou está subendentido, o pronome possessivo no inglês sofre uma inflexão com o acrescentamento da letra “s” no seu final.

my -> mine
your -> yours
his -> his
her -> hers
it’s -> it’s
our -> ours
your -> yours
their -> theirs

As exceções para esta regra são os pronomes “mine” (que possui inflexão própria) e “his” e “it’s” (que já acabam em “s”).

3) Jack, the bedroom is hers, not yours.

4) The two socks are of Jack; they are his.

5) This apple is born on that tree. So, the apple is it’s.
